From 1800-1960 over 3000 artists worked and exhibited in Texas. Some were natives, others immigrated here from Germany, France, Spain, Mexico and the Eastern US. Many studied in leading art schools and with the leading artists of their time. While praised during their lives, many of their works have been lost over time and except for a few, have gone unrecognized by museums, collectors and dealers. Since 1986 there has been a resurgence of interest in these artists, encouraged by exhibitions in the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Dallas Museum of Art, Houston Fine Arts Museum, San Antonio museums and many other Texas venues. Early Texas Artists have re-emerged and in the last few years have gained the widespread attention they have so long deserved. ARTexasGallery.com specializes in finding undiscovered Early Texas Artists to offer in our gallery at reasonable cost. We are also happy to help collectors by furnishing biographies, exhibition records, and teacher and signature identification at no charge. Visit our educational site at www.EarlyTexasArt.com.
